YoungStars 2019 -“Haphazardly Ever After” by Jeff Fluharty

Who’s ready for summer vacation?!

We are already planning for the 2019 YoungStars workshop so get your summer calendars ready!

For additional information about the workshop and performance dates – visit the YoungStars page.

This year’s play is “Haphazardly Ever After” by Jeff Fluharty

About the play:

Tons of magical fun awaits in this original, one-of-a-kind fractured fairy tale farce!  A kind king and queen have trouble in their royal family — four obnoxious, bratty, adult children who do not live up to their royal titles.  There’s the mean Princess Cinnamon, the not-so-bright Princess Peppermint, the vain Prince Hairgel and Prince Slacker, who thinks being a prince is just way, way too hard.  The king and queen try everything to bring happiness and harmony to their family.  They hire a royal therapist, bring in royal teachers and even attempt to marry off their children, all to no avail.  The king and queen are ready for a happily-ever-after that doesn’t include adult children still living at home, so they call upon the fairy godmother to help.  However, after learning the outrageous cost of hiring the fairy godmother (let alone the permits required), the king and queen decide to create a do-it-yourself fairy tale with the help of supplies purchased at The Enchanted Depot.  Royal chaos!  Of course, nothing goes as planned, but everyone is changed by their experiences.  And through a series of haphazard events, the royal family just might live happily ever after, after all.

Fall Show Auditions Sept 5-6!

The Hutchinson Theatre Company is once again excited to present our fall dinner theatre production at the Crow River Winery. Join us November 1-3 and 8-10, 2018 for “Don’t Dress For Dinner”, a hilarious satire written by Marc Camoletti and adapted by Robin Hawdon. This delightful romp is the story of Bernard, a middle aged man planning a secret romp of his own with his beautiful mistress Suzanne, ‘Suzy’, while his wife Jacqueline is away visiting her mother. He has invited his old friend Robert, a somewhat lackluster accountant, to provide an alibi. When Jacqueline learns Robert is coming for the weekend, however, she bails on mom; after all, since she is having an secret affair with Robert she doesn’t want to miss her chance at a romp of her own. Suzette, ‘Suzy’, a cordon bleu chef with a STRONG entrepreneurial bent is pressed in to pretending to be the mistress while Suzanne, the mistress, takes on the role of the chef. Finally, George, Suzette’s dim witted, jealous and very large husband rounds everything out. Definitely a recipe for a crazy night.

It is my pleasure to direct this incredibly funny show. Auditions will be at the Hutchinson Center for the Arts, 6 – 8 pm, Wednesday, September 5 and Thursday, September 6. I am looking for 3 men and 3 women ranging in age from their late 20’s /early 30’s to 55ish. If these audition dates don’t work for you please email me at and I will try to accommodate your schedule.

Bernard: A self-centered dolt (probably middle aged). Not particularly clever, but he thinks he is.
Jacqueline: A self-centered shrew (age is flexible). Not particularly clever, but she thinks she is.
Robert: A bachelor – self-centered by definition (probably middle aged). Knows he is not clever.
Suzette: A cordon bleu chef and unabashedly entrepreneurial (age is flexible). She IS clever.
Suzanne: A model, a mistress, a narcissist (age is flexible). She IS NOT clever.
George: LARGE, jealous, dim, LARGE. (age is flexible). He doesn’t know what clever means.
