The 2018 YoungStars Program registration will be open beginning Monday, May 7, 2018 until all spaces have been filled.

HTC sponsors a youth theatre educational experience each summer called “YoungStars”.

About YoungStars: This annual workshop is a 4-week theatre educational workshop targeted for area youth who have completed grades 4-8. The YoungStars program delivers two live theatre productions. Students going through the program will benefit by learning about theatre, confidently preparing for participation in Middle and High School theatre events, and, where appropriate, auditioning for HTC productions. The program is also designed to provide practical leadership and work experience for an Assistant Director and Teen Mentors.

Students should understand that they may be placed in either the cast or the stage crew. This will be determined after auditions. Students will be placed where they are the best fit for this show.

This year’s play is “Omelette: Chef of Denmark” by Charlie Lovett

About the play:

Did you ever wonder where William Shakespeare got his ideas?  You’ll learn secrets your English teacher never told you in this zany Elizabethan comedy!  Filled with loads of both verbal and physical comedy, “Omelette” is more than just a parody of Shakespear’s “Hamlet” – it’s a backstage romp filled with hilarity and high jinks that will delight actors and audiences alike.

Two teams come to the Globe Theatre to compete for the right to provide the plot for Shakespeare’s next great play.  Shakespeare decides he wants to see the Danish team perform the comedy of “Omelette,” but the Scottish team, waiting to perform the tragedy of “Macbeth,” will stop at nothing to thwart their Danish rivals.  Will Shakespeare love the Danish concoction, or will the deeds of the Scots ruin the play?  By the end of the evening, you’ll know why the “Scottish play” has always been considered bad luck, why the Marx Brothers arrive to present a play within a play, and what really happened to Omelette’s father – the famous Danish chef and inventor of the cheese omelette.
