Young Stars

HTC sponsors a youth theatre educational experience each summer called “Young Stars”.

About Young Stars: This annual workshop is a 4-week theatre educational workshop targeted for area youth who have completed grades 4-8. The program delivers two live theatre productions. Students going through the program will benefit by learning about theatre, confidently preparing for participation in Middle and High School theatre events, and, where appropriate, auditioning for HTC productions. The program is also designed to provide practical leadership and work experience for an Assistant Director and Teen Mentors.

Students should understand that they may be places in either the cast or the stage crew. This will be determined after auditions. Students will be placed where they are the best fit for this show.

2013 Young Stars Program

SquealThe 2013 program will be directed by Mary Haugen with the play “Squeal” by Cynthia Davies.

About the Play:

Being in a school play is a blast, but being trapped in one is no picnic! This amusing spoof within a spoof strings together misleading clues, vegetable jokes, the theory of relativity and a Hamlet-loving pig hostage in a hysterical chain of events guaranteed to make your audiences squeal with delight! After being surprise-attacked by a pig nosed maniac who leaves victims tied in string with bad jokes taped to their backs, the students set out to reveal the masked “Pigsty” who has trapped them behind the dramatic fourth wall! Is it the loopy drama teacher, Mrs. Looney, who wears a pig broach on her toga and mourns the recent departure of her pet pig? Or could it be the gruff, loud-mouthed librarian, Mrs. Shrill, who stores balls of incriminating string behind her desk? With a little help from the Squeak Chorus and the mysterious Pig in Black, Tiffany, Drew, Jamie Lee, Carrie, Jason and Norman have to learn to “think outside the script” or risk being trapped in the mysterious fourth dimension forever! From whiny and melodramatic thespians to a pair of lunch servers who get their kicks passing tofu dogs off as real meat, you’ll have riotous fun following the zany characters as they journey through the scenes to unmask the snorting villain!
